| 00:00 | - In this section of the course, we're going to move onto some of the practical skills that you're going to need to understand and master in order to get the most out of WinOLS. |
| 00:10 | Now the best way to use this section of the course is going to be if you've got a second computer that you can use to work alongside as you're watching these videos. |
| 00:20 | We're going to start in a moment by downloading a demo version of WinOLS that is completely free and this is going to allow you to work through the examples as we move through the remainder of our practical skills section. |
| 00:34 | In the relevant modules, we'll also include a test file that you can download and that you'll be able to load this into your version of OLS and follow along exactly with what we're doing on screen. |

| 01:08 | Before we can get into our practical skills though, we're going to get started by downloading this demo version of OLS. |
| 01:15 | It's relatively straightfoward but I will talk you through the steps. |
| 01:18 | We'll get started by heading to evc.de and that's going to look exactly like what you can see on my laptop screen here. |
| 01:27 | And over on the left hand side you will see we've got this little download tab which we can click on. |
| 01:34 | When that opens up, we can see we've got a bunch of options here, we want to choose WinOLS which is our first option. |
| 01:40 | Now we can see that the latest version of WinOLS 5 is right up the top here but as you can see also if we move across to the right hand side, it does state that a purchase is required. |
| 01:52 | Now you will need to do this if you want a fully functioning version of OLS which you can actually make modifications to the files and then most importantly export them so you can flash the into an ECU. |
| 02:05 | However, for the purposes of learning, the free demo version is going to be absolutely fine, it is paired down a little bit but nothing that's really going to affect our demonstration for our practical skills. |
| 02:17 | So what we want to do is come down here to our WinOLS demo version and of course if we simply click that, that is going to begin our download. |
| 02:27 | We'll wait for that download to complete and we'll come back. |
| 02:30 | Once our download is complete, we can of course simply run the file and that's going to install and configure our version of WinOLS, or at least our test version so let's go ahead and do that now. |
| 02:47 | Alright so our test version is installed now, we can see up in the top left corner, it does tell us that we are operating on a demo version. |
| 02:56 | And at the moment of course, we haven't got a project loaded so there's not a lot to view at this stage. |
| 03:02 | Everything's greyed out or at least a lot of the functionality is our toolbar is greyed out and that's not an element of the fact that this demo version doesn't allow us to use that functionality, it's simply as a result of the fact that at the moment we don't have a project loaded so there's really no usability at this point in OLS. |
| 03:22 | However we've got our test version software installed so we're ready to move on and go through the remainder of our practical skills. |
