Launch Control

Launch control is an essential function if you want to achieve the best possible acceleration from a standing start and achieve it with consistency and reliability. While a competent driver can usually achieve a good launch, the ability of a human to do this consistently and achieve the same results time and time again is difficult. This is where a properly configured launch control strategy can be invaluable.

There are a variety of ways of configuring launch control, and your options will depend to an extent on the ECU you are using and what you’re trying to achieve. This course will start by teaching you the general theory behind launch control - This generic theory section is applicable to any brand or platform. Following that we will look at specific worked examples where the theory is applied on the track to tune and optimise launch control on different ECU platforms. In particular you will learn:

• What is 2-Step Launch Control
• What is ground speed-based launch control
• How to use ignition retard to spool your turbo
• How to control boost pressure during launch
• How to choose and configure a rev limiter
• Using e-throttle to improve your launch
• How to configure and test inputs
• How to test and optimise launch control

Our tutor Andre has been involved in tuning cars involved in both circuit racing as well as drag racing. Many of the cars he has tuned have set lap records or world records and an effective launch control strategy has been critical to these successes. After completing this course you will have the knowledge, confidence and skills required to properly configure launch control on your ECU. More importantly you will have a solid understanding of how to test and optimise your launch control settings to get the best possible results quickly and easily while putting a minimum amount of stress on the car
