Hi, Is steady state tuning done after warm up enrichment and not triggering accel enrichment. Also, is steady state done with EGO correction enabled or disabled?

Hello Kevin,

Steady state (and pretty much all VE table tuning) should be done without any enrichment in effect as much as possible. So the car should be warmed up to normal temp and you shouldn't trigger accel as you said. After the VE table is tuned, if you need more or less enrichment for the warm up, you tune the warm up enrichment table.

As for the EGO correction, it's a personnal choice. I prefer to disable it if it's a standalone, but if it's active you can use the trim % to make changes to your VE table. Usually I keep it active and use the trims on a reflashing ECU.

Hello Frank,

I'm using an MSPNP Pro so can disable EGO correction. As long as the car is idling at the correct target AFR when normally warmed up, is it a matter of seeing what happens during startup without any warm up enrichment and then add enrichment as needed?

When the cells of the VE table are properly tuned when warmed (for the RPM and load that the engine will operate during warm up, let's say up to 2000rpm), the change needed after that should be done in the enrichment table.

You don't have to disable it completely, just do a log and make adjustment based on what the AFRs are at various ECT. I have no idea if Megasquirt provide a base map for your engine, but if yes it can be a good starting point already.

Kevin you can turn EGO correction off and adjust fueling based on lambda target error, or you can leave EGO correction on and adjust fueling until the EGO correction is near zero.

If you leave EGO correction on, the engine will operate on or closer to your target during the tuning process, since EGO correction is offering assistance. For that reason this can be considered the safer option, as long as the range of EGO correction is sufficient to keep the engine on target, and the lambda targets you choose are safe.
