It's Not What You Think | Preheating Engine Oil & Water

It's a common misconception that you need to pre-heat some engines because tolerances are so tight that they will not turn over at all when cold. This isn't correct, however, there is still a good reason why pre-heating is done in relation to mechanical sympathy and reliability when it comes to bearing, valve train and cylinder wall wear etc.

In this quick nugget of tech, we look at oil and water preheating via the Xtreme GTR, an R32 GTR Skyline build at the World Time Attack Challenge. This car uses a 200 series P1 Racing Components Australia water engine heater which is commonly used for Speedcar/Midget and Sprintcar racing engines/teams along with an oil heat mat on the oil reservoir so that warm oil is going into that warm block too.
