WinOLS Mastery: Map Identification & Editing: Log Analysis
Log Analysis
02.18
00:00 | - Any discussion on datalogging isn't complete without also discussing log analysis. |
00:05 | A raw log file is really just a bunch of numbers with a timestamp relating to when the PIDs were sampled and on its own, this isn't a very useful or intuitive way of analysing the results. |
00:16 | This only gets worse as the log file becomes larger and we start analysing more PIDs. |
00:22 | Instead what we need is a way of graphically representing the data that we've just logged so that we can easily visualise it, manipulate it and understand it. |
00:32 | Going a little further, some of the more advanced analysis tools will also allow us to generate histograms and XY scatter plots which are two great ways of making sense out of large log files as well as spotting trends or relationships between your data. |
00:48 | Many of the tools that we'll use alongside WinOLS will have their own dedicated log analysis or log viewing software and this may be a good place to get started. |
00:58 | Particularly if you're dealing with a number of different tools or logging systems though, this can sometimes become quite a messy process as you'll need to learn each piece of software and often in my experience, these analysis packages can actually be quite basic or very limited in their functionality. |
01:17 | For this reason I'd suggest that you consider adopting a universal log analysis tool like MegaLogViewer in order to do all of your analysis in one place. |
01:28 | MegaLogViewer HD is a paid software package, however you can test it out for free to see if it's right for you and even the paid version is pretty cost effective. |
01:39 | The advantage is that this software can import and analyse basically any .CSV log file as well as dedicated log file formats from a number of software packages and ECUs. |
01:51 | The benefit of getting familiar with this software is that you only need to become familiar and competent with a single piece of software instead of a multitude. |
02:01 | You will see us putting MegaLogViewer to use as well as other systems within the worked examples in our Practical Reflash Tuning course and we also have webinars dedicated to getting the most out of this system that we've linked to below this module. |
