- The next step of our process is to start or set up a new project for our file and to do this we're going to start by opening WinOLS, we've also included the file that we're working from below this module so you can follow along.
00:15 |
Let's jump into OLS here and what we want to do of course is use the new project icon up here so we can click on that.
00:24 |
This will then prompt us to find the file that we are going to be working from and in this case we've already got the bFlash files available here.
00:33 |
If this doesn't autofill though we can simply drag and drop from wherever you've saved that file to or you can alternatively search through your directory structure to find the file or the directory that you are storing your files in.
00:48 |
In our case we've got our two reads here, we've got our bench read, our full read and we're going to be using that only for a emergency backup as a recovery so I'm actually going to be working here from the OBD2 read, remember that the OBD2 read and the bench read are a different size file so essentially what this means is that if we're going to be using the OBD2 flashing protocol, then we want to be working from an OBD2 file and vice versa.
01:16 |
Let's just click on our OBD2 read here and this is the process we're going to work through here.
01:24 |
First step here is to simply click next.
01:27 |
Now because we have been working with this file throughout this course, it has of course picked up a number of perfectly matching files which we can see listed up here.
01:39 |
So it's basically going to suggest that we use or work from one of these because they are exactly the same.
01:46 |
We've also got some files that are close match, 94% match there so there's some similarities and some differences.
01:54 |
In this case though we're going to pretend we are starting from scratch here so we are going to make sure that the radio button for ignore similar projects and continue is ticked there and we can click next.
02:07 |
Now the OLS software is going to show us the properties that it has already found and we can simply again click next.
02:16 |
Now we get up to our project properties which is what we want to fill in and as we've discussed in the body of the course, it is worth taking the time to be as thorough and complete with the project properties as you can be.
02:30 |
This is going to make it much easier once you start developing a number of files to find out or figure out exactly what a particular file is associated with so let's just go through this for a start.
02:42 |
So we will leave client out of this, this isn't too critical, you can add client data if you want, you can also add in a license or registration here if you want.
02:53 |
So we will call this KNC680 which is our registration.
02:58 |
Likewise you can add a VIN in here if you wish.
03:02 |
Coming down to the vehicle itself, this is actually a build five and the particular variant here or model is a two litre TFSI GTI so we'll select that.
03:15 |
We're going to then go to our model year which is a 2008, we'll click on that.
03:23 |
So that's got our vehicle information filled in as completely as we need it.
03:27 |
We're not going to add anything in our user defined area here.
03:32 |
We've got the ECU data and the ECU data has been picked up here by OLS so there's nothing really too critical to add to or change here, we know that we are dealing with an MED9.1.5, software variant as well has already been filled in here too.
03:52 |
You can come down and add some information about the specifics of the engine which in this case we can see OLS hasn't picked up at all so let's go through that.
04:02 |
We'll start with our producer which of course is Volkswagen and this is an EA113 engine.
04:09 |
Our type here is turbo petrol, displacement is 2.0 litres and this particular variant is 147 kW or 200 horsepower and 280 newton metres.
04:25 |
I'm not going to worry about our emissions compliance but we will come down here and select DSG as our gearbox type.
04:33 |
Not a lot else here that I do need to complete other than under our communication area, has picked up again that we are using bFlash but if we elaborate on this a little bit, come down to bFlash and expand out our little tree here, we want to select that this is an OBD2 read.
04:53 |
Now we can simply click finish and our file is imported and set up and we can see that while I'm talking here, OLS has gone through and done a background map search and it's found 204 potential maps.
05:08 |
So our step is complete, let's move onto the next step of our process.
