This may have been better put in the race driving fundemetals but can someone please explain why a so called professional driver is so much slower disabling the ABS in this Mazda but I believe in one of Andres Modules he says disabling a road car ABS will be faster than having ABS for a competent driver in this video it is a disaster in my opinion https://youtu.be/ERE9EtOWZMU

Much of it is being able to set the "race" car up to maximise the braking, the driver being experienced braking in that specific car, and developing a feel for what the brakes are doing.

Overall, though, I figure it's a coin-toss, especially as the ABS prevents locking up a wheel when braking under turn-in.

[edit] While my personal experience is very limited, when I did take an ABS equiped vehicle to track days, I found not only did the braking distance increase when I accidntally triggered the ABS, but it also drastically understeered and drove wide, compared to trail braking short of triggering it.

That may have been a fluke, but...

I'd add to this not all ABS is created equal. Some a great systems, some (usually older systems) just get in the way. Also some systems deal with modifications like wheels and tires much better than others.

So it's a case-by-case basis.

Our GT86 has a pretty good factory ABS system in it, but we've just moved to Bosch Motorsport ABS which should be much better and tunable.

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
