Hi
looking to find some advice on a project I’m considering starting, I’ve got a 2005 Holden Vz sv6 with a worn out motor and a 2003 ford ba xr6 turbo with a worn out body, so the obvious thing to do is put the barra in the Vz… want to do it for as cheap as I can as I have a big build on th go already so can I integrate the Vz dash to the ba/bf computer and things like the flick key to start? Or do I need an aftermarket ecu and will that keep the cars dash etc happy and working properly or if anyone has any better ideas to do with making it merge together somehow would be much appreciated
Quintin that sounds like a fun project! I'm not familiar with those cars so I'll leave it to those with specific experience on chassis integration to answer your questions.
Hi Quintin, I'd say you'd struggle to get the VZ dash to integrate with the BA ECU. I don't know these ECUs and dashes well enough to give you the specifics but the issue would be that if the dash is CAN based then it would be quite messy and you'd need a CAN gateway. Not impossible but also far from straightforward. If you're thorough with the swap then it might be easiest to swap in the dash and start key etc from the BA. Long story short, if funds allowed I'd be a pretty strong advocate for putting a standalone on this combination. The only complexity would be if you're intending to run a factory auto in which case your standalone options become very limited - Right now I think only Haltech are supporting the Barra and factory auto with their plug in Elite (https://www.haltech.com/product/ht-154000-elite-pro-plug-in-ecu/).
Thanks Andre was talking to James kirkham and he recommended using a r3 as it will talk to the VZ dash and cheaper than the barra plug and play ecu. on a different note do you guys do wiring and tuning on local customer's cars? if not who would you recommend? I have a twin turbo LQ4 VH commodore with a tick performance level5 t56 and using the nexus r5 and the progate50 Ewastegates, holley vr2 fuel pump's hoping for around 1000/1200 hp
Sorry we just don't have enough capacity to do any customer work. I'd probably recommend Rapid Performance in Timaru as your best bet in the South Island.
