Hey all, I have an sr20det blacktop block that I am going to have machined. I removed the main caps and girdle, 9 of the 10 main bolts seemed to be bent. I could feel them spinning out like they were bent. is this "normal" or "common". I am having the block and main caps line honed due to replacing the main bolts with ARP main studs. I guess what I am asking is will having the line hone and the new main studs should I be concerned about the bent bolts I pulled out? thanks!
Weird - I assume you mean the bolt heads moved in circles as they were unscrewed? Never heard of that before, on any engine, to my recollection.
If the studs screw in and are a close fit to the threads in the block - there was very little side movement if you try wiggling them - and the caps are still a snug fit, you should be fine.
I'd have a very careful look over the caps, and the block, for cracks or other flaws, just in case. Maybe have the block and caps crack tested before starting the machine work - smart move, anyway, for any engine one is going to be leaning on.
