Hello everyone,

I’m building a Vr38 engine and I’m shooting for 1200hp. Actually the set up will have a “daily” tune around 800/900 hp, and then a drag tune for “all in”.

since this is my first engine with this power level, I am a little worried about bearing clearances / oil viscosity, and piston to wall clearances.

Obviously all the other components are matched with the power level. (Gearbox and kit turbo)

I am the owner of a shop in Italy and we do a lot of evos and Hondas but this is my first “big one” so I’m open to suggestions and tech talk to accomplish a proper job.

thanks

Hi Giovanni, I haven't had much to do with VR38 builds myself so i can't speak from personal experience however I do have some insight into what others are doing. First up let's deal with the piston to cylinder wall clearance as that's quite straight forward. You really need to follow the guidelines of the piston manufacturer you're using. With a 2618 forging you'll likely be in the 0.0035-0.0045" vicinity.

With the clearances on the bearings, your power aims aren't really too crazy and the VR38 is quite sensitive to clearances with regard to oil pressure. I'd suggest you aim for the looser side of the factory clearance range here.

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
