Hi all. I am building an SCCA E-production 240z race car. I am rubbing the OEM L24 motor modified to class rules, as required. I have heard everyone from Jay Leno to YouTube builders reference “lightweight” universal alternators.

Does anyone have suggestions for make/model of such alternators? I don’t need more than 20-30A to keep the battery from draining during a race and rad fan use in the paddock. I can handle the fabrication necessary to mount the unit, so just looking for the product details itself.

thanks in advance!

I have used Powermaster 8168 alternator (based on the 93mm Denso alternator), as well as the similar RaceProven models.

Most aftermarket options seem to be based on the Denso David is suggesting, and a 50A won't draw more power from the engine than a 30 or 40A - and will have the benefit of having a reserve in case you need to drive more slowly - yellow flag, etc.

I have seen a very small alternator on a small/mini excavators, with an output of 22A, IIRC, if You REALLY want to minimise the size - it's been a long time, so can't recall exact details.

Thank you!! I will look into the Denso and make a purchase
