I want to use a Pierburg CWA400 pump in my most recent build. I've run into some complications

1) The CWA400, since March 2024 only comes in the LIN version. They've eliminated the electronics on the controller board that interfaced with PWM.The original CWA400, you could also clock the output by modifying a notch on the case.

2) They've come out with a new CWA400PWM however it appears it is based on the CWA200 components so the output port is not clockable. I need to move the outlet port around - the space is very tight and clocking the output is necessary.

I find I can come up with a PWM-LIN converter module but that adds a few hundred dollars more to the build.

I am not familiar with the BMW line or models. Some used the CWA400 but was it controlled by PWM, LIN or some variant that BMW developed? Can I purchase an older BMW pump and still get the PWM control? Any help on model or part numbers would really be helpful. Anyone know which BMW models may have used the CWA400 with PWM control?

Any other suggestions on how to use the LIN version but controlled by my ECU that has a few extra PWM outlets just looking for a home.

thanks

Paul

I have always purchased the BMW part number, and they have supported the PWM as described in their data sheet. I recently commented in a thread over at the Link Support Forum regarding this. I provided the BMW part numbers I've been using.

David,

Thanks for the reply - digging into this a little deeper, I learned the BMWs used LIN bus even on the older models.

Apparently, the PMW feature was an extra that was deleted by Pierburg in March,2024. That doesn't impact the replacement market but does impact the guys using the units in an alternative application with PWM. My only hope is finding one of their pumps on a shelf that was built prior to Feb, 2024.

I've asked Pierburg for a part number or revision number to see if I can find one of the older units and be able to identify it.

They are now offering a CWA400 in a PWM version, but that model doesn't use the latest casting design which precludes a modification to be able to clock the output direction.

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
