My current CANBus setup consists of Link ECU , Powertune Digital Dash with an Expansion. Its all currently wired in with the ECU at one end and the dash on the other end. What i want to add now is lambda, can I just tap into the current CanHi and CanLo to create a new node for the Lamda whilst keeping the current CAN wiring or would i have to remake the CANBus loom to have one main 'trunk' with resistors on each end with each component coming off as a new node?
Typically you would just extend the bus by splicing into a device near the current end (now it's next to the end). While the theory requires the terminations at the end, with a relatively short bus (dash, expansion, ECU and Lambda are probably all within a few meters), in practice this should work fine. -- at least give it a try.
Another solution, would be to cut the can bus at one of the nodes, and add a leg to your new Lambda and from the Lambda back to the other side of the cut. Now you have extended your bus in the middle.
