What are the Idiosyncrasies and differences with specifically the Toyota 86/BRZ and Tuning? Given it's got both port and DI. I can't think of anything outside of Toyota that has this D4S type injection.

There are a number of engines on the market that run both port and DI. D4S is Toyota's name for the external drive box controlled system that they use on some of their DI engines. The D4S driver box allows for the use of a Port injected ECU to run the engine, with the D4S box converting the signals from the ECU into DI control functions. The D4S boxes are also extremely sensitive to reverse polarity and surge damage, so be careful with that.
