Hello,

i have a few questions regarding EFI tuning my evo 8 (stock block, basic bolt ons).

- When tuning using ECUFlash you have a high and low ignition / fuel table. Should i only tune the High-egnition / fuel table? If i were to get a bad batch of gas it could fall back to that tune, or do i adjust both but the 'low' table more conservative?

-If i want to up the boost, how do i know exactly what the perfect AFR is for let's say 1.3bar instead of 0.8 bar? I could not find that in any of the episodes. If i check the current fueling map, at 100% load @ 7000 rpm i have 9.5 AFR, which seems to be a bit rich? (see map photo)

- MBT, so since my engine is knock-limited and i don't have acces to a dyno, i cannot see what the best mbt is. Does this mean i have to make a run on the street, check the datalog and then 'guess' what torque it's making? Or is there software available to see my torque?

- Tied in to the previous question: hen doing road tuning, is the any program available for 'logging your hp/tq' and putting it into a graph? Otherwise i think it would feel like guess work to see if you are making progress.

Thank you very much in advance.

Greetings,

Brent.

Hi Brent,

To answer your questions

- I tend to tune mainly in the high octane map. I will make some changes in the low octane, although keep the on boost stuff very conservative to safety.

- There is no special number for what AFR you should run, The Evo platform does run very rich from stock, although also to note that the values in the ecu are not always correct and usually end up being richer than the actually AFR. I recommend taking the Understanding AFR course which will be helpful with picking an AFR, I have put a link to this at the bottom

- Without a dyno it is basically impossible to tune to MBT since we can't accurately log torque. Although being an Evo and on pump gas (assuming) it will be knock limited so you will find you will hit knock well before MBT. Then bring it back so you have a safety margin. I have also attached the road tuning course below for you which shows how to tune ignition timing without a dyno

- There is virtual dyno software and even Evoscan do this. Although it is not really that accurate. Changes in things like road gradient, wind make a big difference. I have had plenty of car on my dyno with numbers from a virtual dyno and been miles off. Some have been close but most aren't. In my opinion they aren't accurate enough for tuning ignition timing.
