Hi folks,
Hopefully some have done this before and might give me some advice. I am currently in the process of replacing the wiring harness of my 79 Mercury Capri with Ford 302 engine. I really want to ditch the starter solenoid in the engine bay if possible and start the car using can keypad. Does anyone know if it is possible to simply engange the starter motor directly from the pdm using one or two 25 amp outputs on the pmu or is the amp draw simply too much to handle for 3-5 sec without the solenoid?
Hello I take it you are referring to the remote solenoid mounted on the firewall, and the starter doesn't have its own attached solenoid, in which case you 100 percent need a solenoid, I don't know of any PDM that can handle what you are wanting to do, but if it to run a starter motor that has a solenoid mounted on it then yes you can drive that with a PDM normally with one or 2 outputs depending on its current draw

Great, thanks for the answer.
I have some 302 experience and you just need a starter off an SN95 mustang or an explorer as both have a built in solenoid on the starter vs a remote solenoid.
