Tooling question here, I'm looking to invest in building up my tool collection as I will be assembling/blueprinting allot more engines in the near future, I've done all you're engine building courses and am well aware of application and how to use the tools but was wondering if you'd be able to recommend good brands for measurement tools (bore gauges/dial indicators etc) available in Australia as no tool store near me stocks anything... I noticed you used "Insize" branded bore gauges is this preferred for a particular reason? I had a skim over the forums but wasn't able to see any brand recommendations, apologies if I'm blind and just couldn't see it.... Cheers for your time ๐๐ค๐ป
Any of the reputable brands should be fine, Mitutoyo was what I used as a mechanic and I have bought some for my own use - https://www.au.mitutoyo.com.sg/au-en - download the catalogue and have a good look through their offerings. NOTE, make sure you put your CC card away first, they have some very nice kit.
There is a thriving counterfeit business, though, so I'd strongly recommend only buying from their official dealers -https://www.au.mitutoyo.com.sg/au-en/aboutus/authorized-distributors - or directly from them. If there's a "cheap" on-line deal it is 100% likely to be a fake - that applies to any brand!
At the pointy end I'd agree that Mitutoyo is a great option. The 'insize' brand has performed well for us and I have no issues with it. i can't recall why we actually ended up with that brand now sorry. I also have a cheap bore gauge from Jegs (just a generic Chinese kit) and that actually matches what my Insize gauge says so it's difficult these days to say that the cheap products are no good.
