Did you mount stud "finger tight" or did you torque them down?

First advice : follow the studs manufacturer recommendation.

Here's an example of Main Stud kit install instruction from ARP for the RB26 engines.

As you can see, you need to install the stud hand tight. You still need to bottom the stud out, so you can use the hex bolt on top of the stud to help, but you do not apply torque to the stud itself.

Then, you use the ARP thread lubricant and torque the nuts in 3 equal steps to 60-ft/lbs in this example, following the order of the engine manufacturer that you can find in the factory service manual.
