Hello guys,

Anyone here have some experience with running jz block without oil squirters? Unfortunately my local shop cant get my block machined for squirters so i consider leaving it as it is. Im building 2jz ge vvti with forged internals aiming for 650hp~ that gonna be used in driftcar so will definitely see some abuse.

cheers

A friend of mine used NA block for forced induction application with 550 hp on wheels without any issues but that was in drag race where high engine load is appled only for a short period of time. For a drift car i would install oil squirters for sure as i would be very upset to loose an expensive engine over some cheap work that someone just couldn't get done... It seems to me that the cost of loosing performance 2jz engine overweights the difficulty of getting the oil squirters installed...

The primary reason for oil squirters is to cool the underside of the piston crown, as aluminium weakens with heat. This has the benefit of allowing cheaper cast pistons to be used that can run tighter bore clearances and so be quieter.

If you have a competent tune, and aren't running high boost for torque and gaining power that way rather than with RPM, you should be fine with decent forged pistons - it's not like you're really going to be stressing the engine.

However, that said, as Shota said, you are giving up a degree of engine protection in case there is a problem, or you later decide to substantially increase torque/power.

Personally, I'd consider it something nice to have, but I wouldn't stress over not having them.

Depending on where exactly you are, there may be a specialist nearby that can do the work - road trip? - or you may be able to have it shipped with a reliable freight company - make sure it's well crated up.

The reason i recommend oil squirters to be installed is that drift is much less forgiving to any mistakes in tune or fuel quality... From my experience 500 hp peak power in drift puts as much stress on engine internals as 700+ hp in drag (peak power) because of application time. I have seen quite a few examples of overheated engines from drift so in my opinion it is an additional safety feature that helps to protect your expensive engine at reasonable low cost - that is the only idea behind it.
