I need to put new rings in my motor due to burning oil.
Im going to be doing them with the engine still in the car. Will have to use a handheld honing tool, i know they are not ideal but it saves me removing the engine and gearbox and sending block off to a machine shop.
Anyway, what grit stone is normally used to hone cylinders?
What engine?
I've made unsatisfying experience with 180 grid flex hone on a Toyota steel block. I'd go for 120 grid next time.
Sorry but cylinder honing is something that I'll only ever get a machinist to perform and I really can't advise you further on performing this using a manual hone.
