Hello guys
I want your opinion / BMW m50b30 turbo engine for drifting , about clearance. 1000 HP , rev limiter 7700
For the piston top Ring Gap 0.022" - 0.559mm Second Ring Gap Typically 0.020" - 0.508mm
Main Bearings Clearance 0.0025" - 0.063mm
Rod Bearings Clearance 0.0025" - 0.063mm
Oil 10 -40 full synthetic
What do you think , please let me know
Thank you
Hello
It's not an engine and spec' many will be familiar with and, while most* of the clearances seem to be in the ball park, I don't know how well the other components will stand up to the cylinder pressures and torque. IIRC, that engine uses a specific bore material that has caused problems even in stock engines?
*The ring end clearances are a lot tighter than I would expect, what are you basing them on?
My SBC ring gaps are tighter than that?
Different running conditions with different ring expansion rates, Henrik.
However, as I'm not familiar with the engine, as said, I double checked the bore, and minimum recommended is ~20 thou' for the top ring, so he has some head room - I had expected a more for a larger bore.
2nd ring functions more as an oil scraper, and a bit more gap is commonly used to reduce/prevent "ring flutter".
it also uses a cast iron block, so avoiding the bore issues I mentioned above, that affects some of the alloy blocks.
Should be a nice set-up, if the rest of the engine is up to the job.
