I have a K20 engine built to high specs around 8 years ago including rods with L19 bolts.
The engine was raced for a couple of seasons then replaced with another engine. The K20 has since been sitting for several years with no sump on the block. There was oil inside the engine including a visible coating on the rod bolts, and no rust is visible on any parts. However the engine internals were otherwise exposed to air.
Do you think there's a risk of running this engine again with the L19 bolts given the embrittlement issues, or safest to replace?
Without reviewing logs of all engine operation over their lifespan we can't really guess what their service interval should be, but the safer path is replacing them while out since they were used for a few seasons of racing.
