Talk about engine building here. New products, tricky questions or showcase your work - If it's engine building related it's welcome here.
I've been asked by my engine builder what hg i want to run.
He usually fits a 1mm gasket on his builds. The one I supplied is 1.2mm. Could someone explain what the difference would be running one over the other.
It's a 3sgte engine if it makes any difference
Hi. As always it depends on your goal and Octane rating of gasoline in use. If you plan on a lot of boost and cannot lower compression ratio by larger piston dome you can use thicker head gaskets to bring some safety margine. Also if you are going to be using pump gas it also makes sense to lower compression ratio down. I know that 0.2mm doesn't sound like a lot but it's better for high boost application. I would also strongly advise to remove all the sharp edges in combustion chamber since the head is removed- that will help to lower knock threshold big time.
