Hi guys

I have bought an FIC6 to run on my mk3 supra turbo (7mgte)

I should have done some more research before I bought it I think

With it been a fuel and ignition controller I expected I would have cut the triggers to the coils as you do to the fuel injectors but looking at the wiring diagram you don’t it doesn’t touch the ignition system

In the setup menu for ignition you can choose maf map or tps I’m guessing it just tricks the standard ecu some how? How can this relate to the real time figures that we enter in the ignition table? Or am I missing something?

I have just done a full rebuild so don’t want to be increasing the boost and knocking away

Cheers

Si

Hi Simon,

While I have not used this particular system, From a quick search I can see it wires into the cam and crank sensors. It will control ignition timing by referencing load and RPM inputs then intercepting the cam/crank position sensors and delaying the output to the main ecu, which will then fire the ignition later

Do you think this will be accurate or just a guess at best?

Cheers

Si

Accuracy will depend on many factors, processor speed of the AEM and ignition delays etc. It "should" be fairly accurate, although I would be setting my timing in the AEM then check it with a timing light.

Say you set the whole map to 20BTDC then fit a timing light and free rev the engine and see how much the timing drifts.

If the timing does drift its not the end of the world, ideally if you can still tune to MBT (unless engine is knock limited) then providing the timing doesn't shift again after its tuned, its just means the values in you AEM might not match the real values at the engine. Not ideal, but not the end of the world. The main thing is as long as the AEM always provides a constant and stable ignition output.

Cool I will give it a go see how I get on

Cheers for your help

Si
