Hello everyone

I would like to use a self-contained ECU on a BMW V8 M62B44 NO VANOS engine, cable throttle, indirect injection, but I don't have much experience with it.

What do you recommend? Have you had any experience with this engine?

How are the 4 knock sensors managed?

Thank you all

Andrea,

Most standalones will not have inputs with digital processing for 4 knock sensors, so depending on the ECU you'd likely use 1 or 2 of them.

I don't have experience with that BMW engine, but a quick search shows the cam tooth pattern isn't super common, so make sure the ECU you chose can support it. The crank seems to be standard 60-2.

Hello Andrea,

And to everyone else, this is simply my opinion from looking into this engine platform and the options of standalones available and what they offer.

I have been looking into this as well, however for a M60B44 hybrid. The only ECU that I have found that supports the 4 knock sensors and the cam tooth pattern with ease is the Motec M150 ECU .. pretty much every other stand alone ECU on the Market seems to be aimed at 4 and 6 cylinder options with two knock sensors.

Yes they are all capable of running the M62B44 Non vanos, but there seems to be some compromises with either injector drivers or CoP drivers and only 2 knock sensor options depending on which standalone ECU manufacturer you go with.

But if you were to say be building a performance engine from this family and didn't want to compromise or leave anything on the table, the Motec M150 completely fits the bill and has full capability with fuel, spark and knock.

Again, just my 0.02c

Thanks for the answers.

Do you think it is possible to manage this engine with only 2 knock sensors? I saw that maybe ECU link could do something..
