Hi everyone

I'm looking at installing individual EGT probes and twin EMAP sensors on my engine, it is an LS based engine that with be twin turbo and just want a bit of clarification as there are so many opinions out there on the subject

The manifolds are a log style manifold with approximately 5 inches of primary length before they enter the log, I am leaning towards closed tip EGT probes from the research I have done and have seen diagrams that the EGT probe not be placed more than 6mm into the header tube but this reference has been for open tip EGT probes, is this the same for closed tip or should the tip be central in the primary tube and how far from the header flange should they be ?, understandably they need to be all the same length from the header flange.

With the EMAP sensors would the best place be right before the turbo inlet or another location and is there a specific length of tube I need to use to keep heat away from the sensor or even a chamber to help with smoothing out the EMAP signal to the sensor ?.

Thanks in advance

Since EGT sensor doesn't show combustion chamber temperature but exhaust gases it would be wise to install it near by turbo housing or even inside it (lots of people do it this way). EMAP sensor can be installed anywhere into exhaust manifold runner before turbo- I'm attaching the picture how I've done it.

Thanks for that georg1970, I wanted to use the individual EGT sensor for individual cylinder monitoring or is this not as important as turbo inlet temperature ?.

Your images of the EMAP has shown me what do do nicely, thank you for that.

In case of individual EGT sensors installation the goal is to see the difference between cylinders so it's important to install probes at the same distance from cylinder head.

That's the kit I used for EMAP

Thanks for that, makes things easier than making a setup for the EMAP

So from what you're saying as long as the EGT sensors are the same length away from the head (within a reasonable distance of the head) I should be good ?.

Do you have any input as to how far the probe should stick into the tube ?.

cheers

Yes, normally installing the EGT sensors at equal length away from the head is the goal ( pics attached)

Probs depth depends on particular brand but it's usually anywhere from 0.5-1.5 inch.

Great, I'll consult the company that made them and go from there, thanks for the help.

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
