So I have been tuning cars for a few years now writing my own files, I’m in the process of doing a car with fast road camshafts. My question is if I’m tuning in camshafts am I just editing the spark advance to get the best out of the cam or is more required.
I’m pretty happy with the fuel and turbo pressures. Corrected the idle and just need to dial it in.
There is quite a reluctance for anyone to really give any advice on this subject.
any advice would be greatly appreciated
thanks
I don't quite get your query - if you're asking if a 'upgraded' camshaft, or camshafts, requires special consideration, it doesn't, just tune the vehicle as you normally would.
If the engine has a form of variable camshaft control, you may find playing with the transition area can help with the torque in that area.
I assume the person who fit the camshaft(s) also checked for interference, as some engines have tight tolerances where there is very little to work with.
Jamie,
Optimal spark advance will differ after a cam change, but the process of finding MBT remains the same whether the cam is stock or modified, so HPA's suggested tuning process remains the same.
Thanks for the replies, yeah the interference has been checked and all running good.
