Hello fellow tuners, I’m currently looking at purchasing my first dyno. I’ve been tuning since 2018. Mainly on the street, occasional I’ll rent out a dynojet 224X. Main cars I deal with are Honda’s, 240s, JZ swapped cars, and looking at getting into the Ls platform. All the tunes I do are all sidework. Also help customers build, and get there car setup correctly. From swaps, turbo kits etc.. So the main thing I need help with, is finding a place I would be able to get a dyno setup. I don’t need a lot of room at first, I’m just trying to get started. I have a decent clientele, I have a good name. Just trying to take it to the next step. My next question is, can I find a decent budget roller dyno? I see dynamites for 10k (I’m located in the US) I’ve never been a fan of cheaper products. Since I don’t have financial support, I’m just trying to find a way to make something happen. I would love a dynojet 224X. It’s just finances. Mainly looking for a used one. I don’t have a business license yet, but I can look into one to get a business Loan if needed. Hopefully some of you guys have gone through my same struggle!
Dynojet 24" roll is the cheapest I've seen work properly/reliably from a power readout point of view. Without load control you are a bit limited, but it's still so much more data than not having a dyno.
Mustang 500 would be my budget choice with load control.
If you want to run big power stuff, then I'd look at Mainline.
Without calling out specific brands, if a tool doesn't give you accurate info, it's not really a tool.
Worse, you can work around inaccurate, as you're going to be doing mostly comparative work - except for those who are overly focussed on "horsepower" numbers, and not what the vehicle actually does, BUT you must have a dyno' that is consistent from one run to the next to the one next month, so you KNOW exactly what the changes did, relative to the original.
