I’ve just fitted some pretty high lift cams to a little 1.5L turbo Toyota engine, when I started mapping the car I noticed knock straight away even at low boost I had to remove 6 degrees and 8 in some places, car still pulls well but I’m just wondering is this normal or is there a hidden issue.

base timing was checked and checked again.

thanks for any help.

Have you checked the knock audibly? What ECU is controlling the engine and are you able to change the knock frequencies that it reacts to? It may be that the engine noise has changed with the new cams and the knock system is detecting this noise as a knock event when it isn't.

Ecu has no knock control ,I’m using a listen device it’s definitely knock as removing Timing takes it away completely
