Can we parallel input signals from, for example, three knock sensors into a knock monitoring device on the same channel and still receive a reliable signal?
Will the loudest signal of the three override other two?
Not something that I have tried. I think that there would be some adverse behaviour with the signals, I could see amplification occurring in places when the signal from two or three of the sensors is high, but also the potential of reduction or cancellation if one signal is high and the other two were low.
That's probably the perfect excuse to bench-test with a 4 channel oscilloscope.
If they are piezoelectric and the ecu is measuring voltage (as I assume most/all do), not current I think it should work fine but worth scoping up.
Thx for your comments.
Meanwhile I have spoken to Plex. This is what they commented:
"In theory it would work. the resulting signal would be a mix of all signals. The signal level will be reduced as each sensor in parallel would "load" the other signals but should not be an issue.
Assuming the that V/g of the sensors are pretty close it should work.We have not tried it so cannot give a 100% confident answer."
Intetesting. Based on their and your comments, I will do testing in this direction.
