Ok so this is my first project car and I’m stumped so I’ll try and be as thorough as possible.

I got the car completely stock and with low miles and everything ran perfectly fine. I then installed a bunch of mods:

Garret 2871r turbo

Cxracing exhaust manifold

3in exhaust but only the dump pipe is on right now

44mm wastegate with haltech boost control

haltech platinum pro plug and play ecu

front mount intercooler

isr front facing intake

1000cc injectors

and a new fuel pump with the whole relay thing where it’s right from the battery which I moved to the trunk

new spark plugs but they are the stock coils

so my problem is that the car will start fine and idle fine as well. It revs pretty smooth to 2k rpm but as soon as it hits 2k the engine stops and it will restart itself. If I let off the gas it goes back to idle. If I hold the gas down it will rev to 2k die and come back and rev to 2k and die and come back and just keep doing that. Any thoughts? Even suggestions on things to test and try would be appreciated. Thank you!

And to add because I forgot for fuel I have the chase bays regulator and they told me to switch to a deadhead setup with it so my rail has the feed going to it and both the other ports blocked and my base fuel pressure is 58PSI

With a new returnless setup, you may have a bunch of air in the system that needs to purge. I don't know the details of your vehicle, but if you had a return fuel system, you may want to consider retaining.

Does the engine cut out of you extremely gently touch the accelerator pedal to get up to 2000 RPM more gradually, or only if you floor it?

When very slowly revving the engine up, does the wideband get lean before the engine cuts out?

Have you verified the rev limiter, boost limiter, all limiters are not set low enough to occur in this condition?

I've never seen a Skyline with a returnless fuel setup. I mean, it could probably work but I don't see the benefit.

I don't have much experience with Haltech ECUs, but I've heard that their base maps are pretty good once everything is set up (like injector size, base timing, etc...), good enough so the car is driveable.

I would revert back to a return style fuel system with base pressure adjusted to 43psi because that's how the R32 was made to run. Then make sure that the logs aren't showing anything out of the ordinary as Mike pointed out.

Thanks to Frank for saying what I was thinking. ;)

Yeah I agree I will covert the fuel system back to a return style. It cuts out wether I floor it or gently accelerate. The 02 sensor gets slightly richer before it dies actually but one thing I did notice is that when it dies the 02 sensor dies as well where it just reads blank and then when the engine starts itself back up so does the 02 sensor

And yes all that stuff was verified by a tuner as well as far as cuts and limits

Gotcha, when you say it cuts out and dies, is electrical power lost, or electrical power remains, but the engine loses RPM?

Does voltage drop?

Have you taken a datalog and reviewed to see if any values seem to read oddly when this occurs?

I believe electrical power remains because the digital dash stays on.

I’m going to start it again tomorrow and I’ll keep note of the voltage and figure out how to do the datalog and see if I can get it posted on here.

I appreciate the help big time

Sounds good!

Ok so I have data logs this time. At first glance with me not really knowing what to look for a few things stand out. It doesn’t look like TPS registered any change and my MAP never reached positive pressure. It always died out at zero. Voltage stayed constant. AFR was actually lean. And my idle stays 200-300 rpm’s over what I have it set to

I’m assuming the fact that it’s not reading a voltage change on tps is making a timing issue when I accelerate. I just ordered a new one and I’ll update post when I get it installed if my problem is fixed

Great! Yup if the ECU isn't aware of an increase in throttle that may result in insufficient fueling.

Also, you can check if your MAP sensor source is in a good spot in the intake plenum, or on the engine side of the throttle body, so the MAP sensor "sees" both vacuum and positive pressure.

Thank you guys very much for the help. Data logs are an amazing thing! The new TPS fixed the problem

A wise man once said : without data, all you have is an opinion!

Glad you found your issue!

Excellent!
