Hi everyone!

I'm in the process of installing a Audi R8 Coil upgrade to my SR20 Silvia. I'm currently using the OEM coil pack and ignition amplifier. do I have to make any changes to the dwell table or other ignition related tables or can I leave it at my current values? I've heard that the dwell settings need to be changed for maximum efficiency. for reference. I'm using BKR8EIX plugs, 400bhp, 1.5bar of boost. V-power 97ron pump gas and a Link G4+

thanks

I'm not familiar with the SR20 amplifier nor it's ignition setup, but I can tell you that you can make some small gains tuning the dwell setting for a particular type of coil. The best way that I know of to do this is with an oscilloscope. You can measure the load on the coil and see where the current draw drops off which indicated a fully saturated coil. Typically the VW FSI coils run around 2.5ms and start overheating and failing around 3.5ms.

Some ignition amplifier modules auto-adjust dwell. This article has some good info:

I'm not familiar with the R8 coil but a quick google suggests they're internal ignitor (you'll be able to tell by the number of terminals and internal ignitor will have 3 or possibly 4 pins). If that is the case then you can remove the factory Nissan ignitor module from the system and wire the ignition drive on the ECU direct to the coils. As John mentions above, be careful with the dwell numbers because you can damage a coil if the dwell is too high.

The actual ignition tables shouldn't need any work if they are optimised with your stock coils.

Thanks for the input guys. i'll look into it.
