hi, im tuning a 2018 STI and facing issues with tip-in enrichment and overrun fueling. the car mostly stock except(TGV delete, FIC1000 injectors, fuel rails, FPR, 255lph fuel pump). the first issue is with tip-in enrichment it seems like it not applying or its applied for a shorter period which causes the car to be lean momentary(16 to 18 AFR). i tried to add bunch of fueling in the enrichment table and it has no effect or might be small. the second issue is with overrun. when im on the throttle then lift the car will go rich reaching 9.0 AFR in some situation. however at high rpms or WOT runs going from 3rd to 4th gear for example the AFR behaves as expected on target doesn't show the same behavior as at low rpms. another thing i noticed that when i use cruise control at any speed then i cancel the car will decelerate but the injectors will keep firing for a while (up to 5 seconds) then shut off it dose not go into fuel cut. i have logs attached for cold start, cruise, and overrun. outside of these two conditions (tip-in, overrun) the car is behaving normal.
what ECU are you using?
Is it factory or aftermarket
Its common for you to see injectors to run in what sometimes is called "zero demand" eg, lift off throttle. I believe this intended to help with emissions and cylinder temps.
As for tip in enrichment, what are you trying to do\fix? Rest of your comment is about overrun, but tip in enrichment is when you get increase the throttle quickly. Are you seeing a significant lean out event when getting back on the throttle
I’m using factory ecu. Regarding tip-in, every time I go back on the throttle afr spikes up 18 afr even if I increase the fueling in tip-in tables. I attached logs you can look at to get an idea if this is normal or something is wrong
So its common for you to get a "lean" event immediately after opening the throttle. Andre does a good video on this related to fuel pool's Acceleration Enrichment in the EFI tuning coarse.
There will always be a slight lean event as the throttle will open immediately, as it takes more time for the injectors to top up the fuel film\pool in the intake runner, or on a Subaru the TGV housings and then make it into the cylinder. This is why you get a lean spike briefly.
What i can see in that log, is that after you open the throttle, there is a brief lean spike, and then it goes rich which is probably a result of the increased tip in fuel.
If you find that it is noticeably hesitating after you open the throttle then you need to do something or if in the data you see a continued lean event indicating there isnt' enough extra fuel topping up the fuel film quickly enough, but if its not hesitating or the hesitation is very minor then don't do anything. This is why the best thing you can do is tune it by feel not by data. And keep in mind you as a driver will be more sensitive to it when you are trying to specifically tune it. So i find it better if its a road car, to drive normally and if you notice it hesitating without you thinking about tuning it, you need to do something. If you are specifically looking for a hesitation, you'll always feel it and start chasing a ghost.
Also I can't remember exactly what its called in factory ECU, but there is two types of settings for tip in enrichment, one is the amount of fuel it delivers, the other relates to how sensitive it is to detecting when tip in is required, this is often measured based on the rate of change of the throttle pedal, eg if you open the throttle faster or slower. You can usually play with this to get it to trigger the tip in enrichment table quicker. But if you make it too sensitive, then it will jump to tip in when you don't want it to under normal driving conditions and this can lead to it randomly going rich
Thanks Paul. There is some hesitation specially noticeable on large throttle delta on low rpms but on high rpms no lean spikes or hesitation. I’ll try to experiment with tip in table to find a sweet spot where I can get rid of the hesitation.
