Hi everyone, just a thought that came to my mind and would like you guy's feedback.
With VE being the ability for the engine with move air, that being said, will there be any difference in VE between the same model of engine, bone stock everything, but one is nearing the lower limit for compression according to factory spec and one being brand new crate motor from the factory with compression nearing the high limit of spec?
Or am I wrong in thinking higher compression packs more air and lower compression hold less air in the compression chamber?
Thanks everyone.
Might stand to be corrected, but I would say so - how much, though, is in question?
In simple terms, cylinder filling relies on the depression - lower pressure - in the cylinder compared to the other end of the intake port. The greater the difference, the greater the pressure delto pushing the air through the port into the cylinder. With worn rings there will be some leakage past the rings from the crankcase, and this will reduce the dperession and so reduce the pressure difference and cylinder filling.
There may also be a small reduction in the 'draw-through' from the exhaust, that can significantly aid the formation of the depression, because of a small reduction in exhaust gases.
