Has anyone put much thought into using ignition timing to make an engine warm up faster?

I presume anyone who has much to do with OEM stuff would come across this a little? Retarding it does make more heat in the exhaust but does this affect how quickly the engine warms up?

The retard on initial cold start that OEs use is more targeted at getting heat into the catalytic convertor as quickly as possible for emissions purposes rather than actually warming the engine up. I'm not sure that retard would help much with engine warmup as you'd be limited to when and how much you could use due to the torque reduction it would provide.
