Tell us a little about you. What cars you are interested, where you are from and why you are interested in learning to tune.
Hi everyone! I'm Dan and I've been meaning to post for a while. I work in software, but also like doing things with my hands. I've only recently been able to have some money and time at the same time to work on my projects; kids, house, etc. always have to come first!
I currently have an '85 Buick Regal T-Type (turbo V6) and an '89 Toyota MR2 (supercharged I4). The Regal is what ignited my love for working on cars, even though I'm definitely not great at it I find it very rewarding.
The Buick started life as a non-intercooled turbo 3.8L, and at some point in the distant past I was able to acquire all the OEM parts to convert it to the much better intercooled version that the 86/87 cars have. If you're familiar with the Grand National, it's very closely related to that. It was last driven back in 2012(!) right after we bought our first home when the transmission gave up on me. I saved up a little money over the next couple years and our first kid entered the picture, then a second (funny how that keeps happening), then we moved again, so I'm finally getting back into the swing of things! I'm hopeful that after it's road-worthy, I can eventually upgrade the ECU and do some other interesting modifications to it. These cars are most at home on a drag strip, but I'd love to fling this brick-shaped whale around a corner a few times!
The MR2 is a supercharged AW11 that I've been obsessed with ever since I first saw one in high school. This car is everything I love about 80s cars in one little door-wedge shaped package. It's completely stock and an absolute riot to drive. It's survived ~34 years without ever having performance upgrades done to it, and I don't know if I could ever bring myself to be the one to change it.
My other, more recently-acquired hobby is brewing beer; still getting started with that one, but I've made a few tasty batches already, and hoping to make more this weekend. I look forward to learning as much as I can from you all. Please accept this picture of the cars in my very-dirty garage from a few months back!
Welcome Dan! Thanks for joining the forum and sharing your projects.
