Hello everyone! My name is Matt and I live just outside Albuquerque, New Mexico. I took the free courses years ago when I first discovered HP Academy. It's been a while but I am back. I signed up for the Engine Building courses for now and am planning on taking the tuning ones later.

I manage an automotive repair shop and was a tech for 6 years before that. I have rebuilt engines etc before but it has been a while and they were all just stock rebuilds, not performance ones, so I am looking to learn.

I have a 1987 RX7 that is my long term project. I have had it for about 10 years now and went from the stock setup to a hybrid turbo and chipped ECU, to a T70 and Megasquirt, and currently am replacing the T70 with a 66mm turbo along with an ITB setup. Surprisingly the stock engine has taken it all in stride (I've been waiting for something to happen to give me an excuse to go bridgeport).

I also have a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado that has a 4.3L V6, hardly a powerhouse. Because of that I have an 8.1L V8 that I am building (hence the classes) to swap in.

Finally I have my little fun car in my profile. It is a 1979 MG Midget. I haven't had it too long but the previous owner did some work to it, including shaving the head and putting on a DCOE. I am pulling the motor and transmission later this month to fix a leak on the trans (they have to come out the top) and plan on picking up a cam for it at the same time.

I'm looking forward to my courses, and glad to see there are already some other rotary guys on here. I was a little worried about that when I get to the RX7 stuff.

Hi Matt,

Welcome to HPA. There's a fair few webinars in the archive's on rotary tuning that you might find helpful for your dorito spinner.

We have a build section on the forum, it'd be good if you could make a build thread for the engine work that you're undertaking to let everyone see how you're getting on

Thanks Chris, I'll check into the archives before I delve back into the Megasquirt. I might pull the Midget's motor this weekend, and if so I will start a build thread on it. The 8.1 is on the stand and I've started the teardown but that is about it so nothing exciting there yet.

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
