Tell us a little about you. What cars you are interested, where you are from and why you are interested in learning to tune.
Hi folks
Norwegians in here too... Seems like I took this course to learn a lot and learn how to be able to talk to tuners. Got a turbocharged, direct injection engine with variable valve timing and an especially tricky Bosch MED 9.1 ECU. Its a 2007 VW Eos, with a BWA EA113 2.0TFSI, that has gotten Stage 3 hardware. I've had it since new, the stage 3 is only so that Tesla owners won't overtake me without breakin a sweat. Track time every now and then. Its a summer car and part of the family.... There's hardly any standalone ECU's for DI engines under $6.000,- and good software/hardware to make good reflash tunes for a non professional user making a single engine tune, is daunting, expensive, time consuming and hard. I'm in my rabbit hole, it seems like. Gonna get a tune file from the supplier as they have a basic tune file for my stage 3 hardware, get it flashed and checked of a professinal and then limp off to the dyno tuner in the next town for tidying up.
Andre of HP Academy was actually very well known and respected by the dyno tuner... He is apparently a Mitsubishi world record holder of some sorts...
Backdrop... Was gonna look over the engine, last summer, valve cover off, immediately could see engine had suffered from oil starvation,, cams and bearings was a war zone. Engine head = thrash..... Oil pan off, both thrust washers immediately greeted me with their glimmering presence, crank had rubbed againt the block, both thrash..... 2 piston oil squirters were also failed open, all probably a cooperational effort... So no excuses then, I rebuilt the baby, and I got good parts on my first try from an of all things, Greek junkyard!!! I recon I had the to buy parts block/head 3 times before I got a decent example. They were dirt cheap anyhow. Rebore, planning hone and balancing crank etc...
But doing the tune myself mapping, reflashing and so on, I gave up already... Maybe next time with a 1.8t 20V in an MR2 Spyder....
