Tell us a little about you. What cars you are interested, where you are from and why you are interested in learning to tune.
Hi there, my name is Darren deRoos and I’m from just outside Toronto, Canada. I own a 1985.5 Porsche 944 NA that I have custom supercharged. I run an Eaton M90 supercharger from a 1990 Thunderbird super coupe. It is a blow-through setup utilizing a bypass valve and also runs through a front mount intercooler. I am running a VEMS Standalone ECU and street tuned the car before putting it on a dyno. It runs about 5.5-6lbs of boost for now and made 185whp and 205lb-ft with peak torque at approx. 2000rpm. I’d like to run more boost but I want the car to run perfectly before adding more power. It’s a street/circuit car and while it runs ok, there is lots of room for improvement when it comes to drivability. This is why I am here taking the HP Academy course. If I’m able to learn to tune the car to perfection, I’m hoping to help out the rest of the 944 VEMS community as well as branching out to help others running the VEMS ECU in North America.
Hey there Darren, welcome to HPA mate!
That's a good looking 944 😎
How have you found the VEMS so far? There are a few other HPA members running them, they come up in the odd email conversation and seem to be solid like most the options out there are these days (lucky for us all!).
I hope you enjoy improving your driveability! It's something that takes a bit of use to find what you're not happy with then a little time to address those issues.
As well as what is in the course material there are a lot of webinars on things like cold start and acceleration enrichment etc that don't use the VEMS platform but will still apply to what you are doing with it and how it operates.

Thanks so much. So far I'm absolutely loving the course!

Thanks, it's definitely a work in progress.

I like it. It was a PnP unit which made starting out much easier. There's lots to learn and the interface is a bit different.

That's why I'm here. Trying to perfect the drivability. I can't wait to start applying what I'm learning.

I've been perusing the webinar subjects. I'm very excited to start digging into them, looks like an incredible resource. I'm super excited about what I've learned already. The videos are brilliant, so thankful this course exists.
Darren,
You may already be aware, but since VEMS is a partial re-write of Megasquirt, any Megasquirt content will look pretty familiar.
