Tell us a little about you. What cars you are interested, where you are from and why you are interested in learning to tune.
Hey everyone!
My name is Justin West and I am new to the group. I am from Denver, CO and I am interested in all kinds of cars having been brought up in muscle cars and recently finished building my first JDM project a 96' Nissan S14 with a S15 front end and powered by a stroked and slightly larger bore RB20det. I have always loved learning about engines and mechanical operations on automobiles but never took the plunge to learn to tune on my own. I just recently upgraded my ecu from a PFC to an AEM Infinity and rather than paying for another tune I decided to go this route. I always like having as much control over my builds as possible and for me this is the next step in my education. Depending on how this goes I may even decide to tune as a side business.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and learning with you. P.S. I attached a few pictures of my car in case you care. I still need to tune suspension but I have adjusted ride height recently and still working on finishing the engine bay (rad support etc.) but it's mostly complete now.
Cheers!
Justin
Is that an LQ9 coil conversion?
Welcome to HPA, that is a good looking S14.5
Hey Chris, thanks for the compliment! Yes it is an LQ9 conversion. I made a custom bracket to mount them and then just made a conversion loom. They work great, though I need to make a heat shield to protect from exhaust temps. I don’t like how close they are to the dump tube they get a bit hot.
I love the coils though, definitely a big improvement over stock and it’s super easy to do spark plugs now
