Discussion and questions related to the course Motorsport Fabrication Fundamentals
Hello,
What characteristics does T45 share with chromoly. I want to do FIA compliant cages, and chromoly isn't accepted.
I've been told by a welding teacher in the past that preheating chromoly is an ideal way to reduce cracking. I've seen some people wrap their welds to allow the steel to cool down much slower especially in cold climates.
What do you think of these techniques?
T45 is the way.
I haven't done any preheating to T45 when doing cage welding, unless the room has been sustained at temps below 70F..then I might. But clean up prep, good filler, good heat control and lots of shielding if TIG. I will be doing some mig here soon and that will be a first for me with T45.
