Quick question,
If I am claculating intercooler pipe sizing for a V6 twin turbo with one turbo per bank and one throttle body per bank....
Say I am calculating based on 500 engine HP. Is this is asimple as sizing for 250hp (as each throttle body will essentially be feeding a 3 cylinder, 250hp motor)?
Or should I be sizing for 500hp, and then splitting that cross sectional area accross two TBs?
Thanks!
They should give the same result, if I understand the question correctly.
Like you said each bank is essentially its own 3 cylinder 250hp motor in terms of airflow - assuming your using an intercooler with 2 inlets and outlets.
But yeah, I think it should give the same result if you size for 500hp - it should be double the area and then half to your requirements.
are you thinking something around 2" piping?
Thanks guys.
I was looking at
- 55lb/min flow rate, 250fps, then taking that area (.0479) and splitting it in two before calculating the ideal pipe diameter
Which yes, is exactly the same result as starting with 27/5lb/min flow rate. And of course it is...!
I'm over thinking it just a little!
Better to "over-think" it than "under-think" it - less likely to screw up that way ๐๐
