Discussion and questions related to the course Motorsport Wheel Alignment Fundamentals
If my toe is set to zero, am I able to change my camber setting without affecting the toe?
Obviously this will vary depending on your exact setup but almost all vehicles will need the toe adjusted after the camber setting has been changed. The tie rod end mounting point on the knuckle has moved in space and you will need to shorten or lengthen the tie rod by adjustment to correct for this change
On formula cars where the toe link is on the same plane as the A-arm where we adjust the camber often these are completely independent. Imagine the toe link and a-arm attach to a common block. The camber is adjusted by inserting shims between this block and the upright.
If you can't visualize how the geometry works with your car, just re-measure the toe after changing the camber and you will see if you need to change it as well.
