If it's not really about tuning or wiring. Then it belongs in here.
G'day guys, new on here from Australia,
It is incredibly difficult to find a very competent Motec tuner here in Aus. Most don't pretend they know, others give it a go, and there are a couple of experts.
I recently purchased a V8 circuit car, backed by a PPG Sequential with shift cut via Holinger strain gauge gear lever. Motec 130 and C127 dash. I don't trust unknown tuners i purchased it off and tracked down one of the only gurus in Aus. Sent him the tune package and he was stunned by what he saw, particularly with regard to how the flat shift on the sequential was programed and other stuff.
Anyway, he has asked me to get 4 Motec wheel sensors, fuel temp sensor and check on sensors for the PPG box.
My question is what is he looking to do with the data from 4 wheel sensors and fuel temp sensor?
Cheers
He's looking to get your traction control working correctly. Also needed for rev-matched gear shifts (the M1 will adjust the rev-limit for blip to match the wheelspeeds as they are changing rapidly during braking). You need all the wheel speeds to handle the lock wheel, and/or spinning wheel cases.
Fuel temp is useful if you aren't using closed loop fueling to deal with that. Injector Dynamics used to have a good article on fuel volume compensation with temperature, but I can't find it now.
EDIT -- I had to use the Internet Wayback machine, but here is the newsletter from 2013 with this fuel temp article at the bottom:
If this is the tuner you really trust, giving them the tools to do the job right will generally improve the outcome.
Fuel temp isn't a critical sensor for many setups, but there are instances where it can be.
Maybe you have a dead head fuel system and are having hot restart trouble they feel this will help compensate for, or if you're having loss of fuel pressure when the fuel hits a certain temperature, this can help in confirmation of that rather than resolving it.
