Hi guys! I am looking for different opinions about RaceRamps Wheel Cribs (or Jack Stands, as they call them on their european website).

I have done several basic maintenance jobs on my 2018 GT86 such as brakee pads and rotors change, all fluid change and other little things.

Creeping under the car while it is supported by regular jack stands on a tiny pinch weld doesn't make me really comfortable.

I looked for something safer and maybe quicker too: i found RaceRamps Wheel Cribs and now i'm basically 99% sold on buying them.

Here is a link to their website's Wheel Cribs section: https://www.raceramps.com/garage-service/cribs/c/cribs/

And here is a link to the same section of the european website: https://www.racerampseurope.com/service-ramps/jackstands/

I can't decide which size, so i am asking for help/suggestion/experience :)

They come in 3 heights: 8" (20 cm), 10" (25 cm), 12" (30 cm).

They also make the "supercar version" extra wide and extra tall at 14" (35 cm).

The 8", 10" and 12" versions can be ONE-PIECE or 2-PIECES.

The supercar version only comes in 2-pieces.

Here is a list of the Pros/Cons about them (at least, what came up to my mind):

ONE-PIECE Pros: No risk of having the 2 pieces slide relative to each other.

ONE-PIECE Cons: We have to perform a full lift and, depending on the height choosen, it could be uncomfortable/unreachable for our jack (maybe we could some pieces of wood to lift the car a little bit before making the "final" lift on the wheel cribs.

2-PIECES Pros: Possibility of performing an half-lift when full height is not required (using just 1 crib). Possibility of raising the car to full height in 2 times, making the job slower but safer (if they don't slide relative to each other).

2-PIECES Cons: I can imagine them sliding/moving around a little bit.

On their website there are a lot of pictures of cars on wheel cribs of every size...

What do you think would be best for me?

I would like to perform jobs such engine oil/gear oil/transmission oil change easier and with extra safe on mind and also to perform a clutch job.

The clutch job worries me a little bit because i know i will need extra space.

Every opinion/suggestion will be really appreciated :)

Of those, the two-piece may be the best option, as it gives you some flexibility on the height.

Something you will need to take into account is the jacking height of your jack, and the droop of the suspension, which will limit the height you can use under the tyres - remember, you have to get them under first.

That said, they're not going to be of use when doing any work on the front brakes or suspension, so you really need to sort out something with the jack-stands. When you say "pinch points", are you referring tot he OEM jack points? They're normally quite heavily re-inforced internally for the job so should definitely be up to the job, however the suspension mounting points are usually a sound alternative.

Hi Gord!

Yes, when I said 'pinch welds' I was referring to the OEM jack points. I usually lift my car with a floor jack in 2 points (the cross member for the front and the differential for the rear) and place the car onto jack stands located under those jack points.

I have never had experience with a different location to place the jack stands. How can I 'know' if it is safe?

The more research I do, the more sold I am on buying a set of quick-jacks.

Faster, probably safer and... Can also work for motorcycles!

Do you know them?

:)

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
