Hi Andre

Have always wanted to know more about your old work car TIMID since I seen a mention of it in an old/ancient NZPC magazine.

Can you provide some details on engine/driveline you used and what sort of performance you achieved please.

Also interested to know your views on the difference/limitations between the small/largeport 16v heads in a turbo application.

Regards Vance

Hi Vance,

That car ran an AW11 4AGZE bottom end with a silver top 20V head and TRD head gasket. It had a GT30 HKS turbo, Motec M48 ECU, Quartermaster twin plate clutch and W57 box. We made 501 whp @ 32 psi on C16 fuel and it ran a best of a 10.51 @ 134 mph.

I ended up using ARP rod bolts, 11 mm ARP head studs and TRD bearings but other than that the engine was basically stock. I did however swap to a crank trigger system as I was having issues with the standard 20V CAS.

I've always been a fan of the 20V head in a boosted application but there is nothing wrong with the 16V head either. It's generally accepted that the big port head is a little too large and is detrimental to airspeed and hence low rpm torque.

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
