Discussion and questions related to the course PDM Installation & Configuration
Hello, just got IN and was wondering if you need to route the CAN twisted pair really close to the steering wheel (switchboard) for the CAN unterminated 30 cm distance requirement OR do you generally always terminate CAN in the switchboard?
Is that 30 cm real life limit and is it calculated as twisted pair length or untwisted?
My head is spinning fast trying to intake all the new info on CAN and PDU16. I'm building a 79 Porsche wiring from scratch and using the steering column switches ( blinkers, flash, wipers, horn) would be nice to have paraller to CAN_keypad.
In practice most CAN bus seem to operate with "spliced legs" of much greater than 30cm (say 1m) without issue. If I have the choice, I will usually just extend the CAN bus to nearer the CAN device, and splice both sides together close to the connector. My terminations are decided by the ends of the bus - either main trunk or if it ends in a device -- then at the device.
Thanks. I think I will end the bus near the switch anyway so I need to figure on how to install the CANtoUsb module so its easy to access and hopefully the leds can be seen.
