Discussion and questions related to the course PDM Installation & Configuration
Hello Gents,
Im planning to run power stearing via Power Managment Unit Ecumaster. I will use hydraulic pump TRW PA66 orginally used in Opel Astra G.
In the PMU16 there is a option for connect three high current outputs into one, toghether 75 amp. I dont know real current consuption of hydraulic pump but Astra has 80 amp fuse used for power stearing.
Is it safe to connect that powerfull unit as power stearing pump via PMU ?
I've done a couple of cars with electric power steering and PDM/PMUs -- due to the high current demand, I have always just run them outside the PMU with it's own fuse. If you really need to know the current consumption (it will only be high when practically stopped), then I would add a current-loop sensor to the logger or PMU analog input.
As David suggested. I do seem to recall some high current solid state relays that could be switched by the PDM/PDU, but I'd need to check when I have time - and I may be mistaken, anyway.
Yup I've run multiple different electric power steering systems with that PDM with no issues. FWIW their AS unit has 2 40 amp circuits, but I've done it on the non AS unit as well.
