Discussion and questions related to the course PDM Installation & Configuration
Hey all,
I'm planning out my PDM project and am unsure of how much current many of the factory loads draw. Is using the factory fuse size a reasonable guide? I ask because I suspect maybe it's too conservative since a fuse needs to be sized for the inrush current while the PDM is designed to handle short inrushes without tripping.
For example, my Mazda RX-8 fuel pump is on a 20A fuse from the factory. On my PDM, a "medium power output" channel is rated for 15A and up to 80A inrush.
My RX8 is swapped with an LFX engine. Another example from the GM fuse box is that the "Powertrain Odd" circuit that runs three of the coils is fused at 20A. I'm not sure what the coils draw, though.
I'd be convenient to find that maybe I could use a PDM channel for a given load that is maybe 75% of the factory fuse value.
Thanks!
