I m setting up an engine for straight E85 fueling, but I am confused as how the ECU sets the AFR to the 10:1 . On the lambda Tab it says AFR Gasoline 14.7 and when I switch to SI units lambda goes to 1. And I did select fuel type in the wizard to E85 so im confused why it still says 14.7 instead 10 which it says in the wizard its going to use 10.1 for E85 Stoich. Also if ! change AFR to 10 in all cells when i switch to lambda view it says .6 lambda . afr feed back says 9:1 actual request AFR 14.

I get it if I was doing flex fuel but I want to do only e85 do I need a fuel composition sensor to run e85 even if I don’t want to run flex fuel set up?

Last first - unless you're using your own mix, and not pump fuel, it would be a wise call to use a flex-fuel sensor in the fuel line. I say that because the actual pump fuel mix will vary a little, as will the quality of the petroleam octane used, and so the actual lambda (AFR) may vary and this will affect the ignition timing required.

First last. What ECU are you using, and what are you using to monitor the AFR? More experienced people than I should be able to guide you on the configuring, but it seems like you have set fuel correction in the ECU for correcting the fuelling from what would be a map set for petrol/gasoline to what would be used for a change to the injector opening required for the addition fuelling for E85.

But either the AFR display hasn't been changed by the software, if applicable, or in the software monitoring software you're using - I suspect this is going to be the problem as it will be taking a lambda value from either the ECU or a stand-alone lambda sensor. Check your display options, as it is apparently getting the correct lambda value but isn't converting that to the fuel blend you're using. Personally, I STRONGLY recommend sticking to lambda for all tuning and fuel mixes, if only to avoid the confusion caused by every fuel blend having different AFRs for the same lambda values, which are the raw values the AFR is calculated from, anyway.

Using the AEM Infinity 5 and the wideband is directly connected to the Infinity. Monitoring software is the Infinity built in logging one. It’s not new got this unit second hand. The previous owner was running flex fuel, I did find the flex fuel sensor active in the advanced section , so I have turned it off. Also changing injectors I was running the cheap propane ones 2100cc I’m replacing them with some 1500 better quality ones . I’ll update later on today.
